If you are the smartest person in the room you are in the wrong room

Introduction:

I am sure by now you have heard this saying:

If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room.

While I understand the meaning behind this, I do not fully agree with it and would like to add on to this saying.

My mission in this world is to help others in any and every way possible to the best of my capabilities. Which is why I have conflicts with this quote. So here is my version of it.

If you are the smartest person in the room, lead others, teach them things you would want to know if you were in their position and guide them into the next room with you.

I do not like the fact that the original quote is very judgemental, meaning you are comparing yourself to others and assuming you are the smartest most knowledgable person in there. No matter what you can always learn from someone else even if you think you are smarter than they are.

A growth mindset has helped me facilitate and apply my version of this quote everywhere I go. I hope it can guide you too.
